I didn't realize it before, but I guess it's a common message that has been occurring for a few years. Do a search at https://productforums.google.com/forum and sort by date.
https://productforums.google.com/for...ow%7Csort:date seems to be the most recent thread.

I just attempted a port-in from Sprint/Ringplus to GV, and received the same message as others have today, which is:
"Number Porting is currently unavailable. Please check back again tomorrow."
they say misery likes company, I hope you all feel better now; I do at least. :-)

same error message today.

This is encouraging..... Glad I haven't initiated the port from land line to mobile yet. Wouldn't be a good thing to be paying prepaid fees to forward a number while google fixes this.
How often does this issue happen?
-
I wonder if these issues are not somehow related to the deluge of customers porting out of ringplus recently. There was a period of maybe 2 weeks during which many customers moved their numbers elsewhere. No doubt many to GV. This began around the first week of February 2017.

Porting in is once again active. I'm going to wait til monday to see if folks are still experiencing issues before bring the number in.
-
The other day I reported here that my attempt to port from RingPlus over to GV was returning a message to me from GV that I should try again tomorrow, etc.
After another day of that, I ported to number over to LycaMobile, no problems- it is now working at Lyca.
When I go into GV and tell it to port in an existing mobile number it looks fine, just one little catch, I need to put $10 (i wish I could put less) in order to get the "verification" call from GV; it should be enough to provide the porting PIN and account number one would think. Hmmm.
So at the end of the day it is going to cost $30 to port the number out of RingPlus and get it to GV.
-
The re-enabled ports around 5pm eastern time yesterday. I think had you waited, there wouldn't be a need to port to lyca first.
Can you post the exact timeline of your porting process?
I'm just about ready to commit, but given gv's porting issues over the last weekand a half, i'm a bit apprehensive about starting the landline port to att gophone in case there are delays porting from gophone to gv.
-
Myself, I have NOT started the port process (Lyca to GV) as yet. This is for a friend and I need to let him know what has developed, perhaps he will (temporarily) to Lyca/t-Mobile, at least to try the Lyca service and use up the $10 worth of airtime which we are now committed to add to the SIM card if our final port of destination is going to be GV.
-
On an aside, I noticed while contemplating just getting a fresh new GV number that it seems we can no longer search for phone numbers in GV as we could in the past.
Similar to Freedompop, a handful, or two if you click show more numbers, pop up - I couldn't see any method of searching the available number pool.
-
I see the $10 fee for att/tmo as a sort of activation fee. Part of the fees involved in switching over to eventually save $$$
Use the legacy gv site to activate and obtain your GV numbers. You still get to choose from many. Just did this the other day while I'm getting everything in order to move the pots line over. I used a very lengthy email address (20 characters random letters/numbers), and an equally challenging password. For the fax line, credentials are far simpler.

How do you port back to a carrier? Do you have to make a pin? What address does one put? I didn't make an address on the gmail account
